  1. The mystery continues. Did the rot lead to the insect presence or was it insect damage that caused the rot? At least it solves the problem of why that section broke off. We had something similar happen to a redbud and I thought it was a goner but the rest of the tree is still hanging in there. Good luck with your Laurel!

    • Thank you for that info!!!! Fingers crossed!!!!- xericstyle

    Hi,

My suggestion would be to send these photographs to Howard Garrett (The Dirt Doctor). He is a wizard! And if he cannot tell you what it is, he can point you to the right person. His website is dirtdoctor.com, and I will forward you the last newsletter I got from him.

Oh, another suggestion is to send them to Tom Harris, but I will have to dig out his email address for you.

I recognize the problem, but my brain is currently thinking about the pizza that has not arrived yet!

Best regards, Liz Houle (formerly Daigle)

    • Thanks, Liz! Will do :) – xericstyle

  3. That’s interesting, too…I take it that’s the same Sophora you have out front? Seems you’re getting closer to the cause. Decay, then something getting into the decayed area?

    • It is the beauty out front :( I think you are right…decay first . I wonder how long it was going on that I didn’t notice. It occurred on the side that faces the street. :( :( :( – xericstyle
