HOT fall color and combos…

Nothing is better than October in Central Texas!!!!!! I love the way my Texas native cholla cactus anchors the hot color of the Autumn sage (salvia greggii ‘Purple’) and Russian Sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia) swaying in the fall breeze. In the same way, this agave provides weight and structure to this area of the bed. My current ALL TIME …

The Purple Corner

If you garden in Central Texas (or zones 8-10) and you don’t have Mexican Bush Sage (Salvia Leucantha), you need some!I call this “the purple corner” of my garden.  When the Mexican Bush Sage blooms in the spring and the fall here in San Antonio, they put on an incredible show.  Here I planted three …

Yucca Rostrata ‘Sapphire Skies’ are in the ground…

Remember my dream for three Yucca Rostrata ‘Sapphire Skies’ in the front right bed?I finally got them!  I am so excited….although they are teensy weensy.  I wish I could afford, or even find for that matter, the ‘Sapphire Skies’ cultivar mature or even trunked around here.  I was able to find some larger “regular” Yucca …

My garden is doing magical things right now…it appears that it has woken up after the recent rains and weather changes.Purple purple everywhere….LOVE IT!  All my sages are blooming, and my mass planted purple trailing lantana  is going wild! Succulents add sculpture/structure to the garden…

I have recently added many succulents to my garden.  To me they are living sculptures and fit well with my modern Texas hillcountry garden. Who needs garden art when you have living art?!  The succulents in my garden are all evergreen/hardy.  They will play a vital role of anchoring my garden, in different ways, throughout …

New gate adds color balance and modern flair…

I just finished staining the new gate and hopped right to this post.  I am really happy with how it turned out.  We needed a little more of the orange’ish stain color on this side of the house to balance things out a little.  We also wanted to stick with modern lines. Sorry the picture …

Transformation of the house exterior is complete!

It is hard to believe this day has finally come!  The exterior transformation of our home is complete, and we are ecstatic with the results.  The painters just finished and I immediately got to work sweeping and putting the outside back together tickety-boo.  Besides losing one rosemary plant the garden has survived!!!!  Re-roofing is not …
