Need privacy?

I love this ultra private front yard garden!  Car lights at night on this dead end street don’t bother these folks. And talk about color! Who says a xeric garden can’t look full and lush?!?!  Judging by their plant selection of primarily natives, I bet these home owners never water. I hope you are inspired:). …

The Purple Corner – Oct 2013

This was my “purple corner” last year after my front garden’s 1st summer…The plants are filling in, and the Mexican Bush Sage (Salvia leucantha) is stealing the spotlight. And here we are fall #2.  Gregg’s blue mistflower (Conoclinium (Eupatorium) Greggii)  is a butterfly haven, prostrate rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ‘Prostratus’ ) adds evergreen interest along with Yucca …

Bees and Butterflies

Right now my front garden is swarming with bees and butterflies.  This puts such a big smile on my face – to see my kids enjoying it ….and to feel like thanks to my garden, my yard is ALIVE again.  It used to be hot and sterile…no life here, nothing for these beautiful creatures to …

Bye Bye Butterfly Bush…and HELLO….

This plant, Lo & Behold® ‘Purple Haze’ – Butterfly Bush, drove me nuts.  I found this dwarf variety to be leggy and so I pruned it…then it did this.  I thought I would give it a whirl in my purple front garden, but as far as I am concerned, I let it hold this place …

Property border project completed and extended…

Remember this project – the one where I set out to define our property line?  It is done!  Well, kind of…but more on that in a minute.I got my hands on endless truck loads of free rocks (feels like endless piles when you are moving them from the ground into a truck) so I jumped …

Rookie mistake!

Remember my Yucca aloifolia gift that I planted directly to the right of the path by the  front door?  Well…turns out that was not such a great idea.  Nothing says welcome like slicing a visitors calf open on the way to the front door – YIKES! Before:  I really loved the idea of this yucca …

Color Guard Yucca = spiky sunshine

I wanted a little something to add color and structure to my mass planting of native bamboo muhly (Muhlenbergia dumosa) I planted a couple’ish months ago in the side yard. Here is the bamboo muhly then….looking good…but needing a little something… And here it is now intermingling with a mass planting of Yucca filamentosa ‘Color …

The Purple Corner

If you garden in Central Texas (or zones 8-10) and you don’t have Mexican Bush Sage (Salvia Leucantha), you need some!I call this “the purple corner” of my garden.  When the Mexican Bush Sage blooms in the spring and the fall here in San Antonio, they put on an incredible show.  Here I planted three …

Yucca Rostrata ‘Sapphire Skies’ are in the ground…

Remember my dream for three Yucca Rostrata ‘Sapphire Skies’ in the front right bed?I finally got them!  I am so excited….although they are teensy weensy.  I wish I could afford, or even find for that matter, the ‘Sapphire Skies’ cultivar mature or even trunked around here.  I was able to find some larger “regular” Yucca …
