Summer year 1 and year 2 comparison…

It is HOT out there, and I have been feeling a little bit like nothing is happening…post worthy.  So I decided to look back at pictures from last summer around this time…BEFORE: My front garden last summer AFTER:  My front garden’s second summer. (this picture is so dark – I’ll take another later – sorry)A …

‘Bubba’ blooms…

My two Texas native desert willow trees (Chilopsis linearis ‘Bubba’) are blooming for the first time since planting them in the front garden last fall.  I am in love… I love the wispy foliage, I love the dark bark, I love the vibrant flowers, I love it all.

“Rita” is blooming!

She’s blooming – Opuntia Santa Rita ‘Tubac’ is striking when she shows her purple and yellow colors at the same time.  Nature tells us purple and yellow look good together!  Golden barrel cactus (Echinocactus grusonii) in the bee-hive planter plays up the yellow further. During recent heavy rains here in San Antonio I was itching to plant and get dirty but it was too wet out there.  So I decided to focus on containers to fill the need.“Rita”, my Opuntia Santa-Rita ‘Tubac’, looks like a purple goddess when paired with purple heart (Tradescantia pallida) – I can hardly wait …

Garden stroll…

It has been a while since I have looked at my garden…I mean really looked at it and soaked it all in.  Today was the day to take a break from our Canadian company and bond with my garden again…I missed it!My creeping germander (Teucrium crossonii) is still flowering ….despite all the c-c-c-COLD nights!  The …

Bees and Butterflies

Right now my front garden is swarming with bees and butterflies.  This puts such a big smile on my face – to see my kids enjoying it ….and to feel like thanks to my garden, my yard is ALIVE again.  It used to be hot and sterile…no life here, nothing for these beautiful creatures to …
